If you are reading this with a quiet ache of guilt in your chest, I want you to know something before we go one sentence further. You are not lazy. You are not a failure. You are a woman who has loved God through a very loud life, and the loudness is not a character flaw.
I know the pattern, because I lived it for years. The new journal. The early morning plan. The promise whispered to God that this time would be different. And then a hard week, a sick child, a tired body, and the slow drift away. By the time I noticed, the guilt had already moved in.
Here is what I wish someone had told me sooner. The goal was never a perfect streak. The goal was Him. And He was never keeping a tally of my missed mornings.
Grace is not a reward for consistency
We treat closeness with God like a prize for good behaviour. Show up enough days in a row, and maybe you earn a little nearness. But that is not the gospel. His mercy is not a wage you clock in for. It is His character.
It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22-23, KJV
Read that again, slowly. New every morning. Not new after a long enough streak. Not new once you have proven yourself. New every single morning, including this one, including the one after the week you went quiet.
One small step, not a grand restart
When we fall behind, we tend to plan a dramatic comeback. A whole new system. An hour a day. And that pressure is usually the very thing that makes us quit again three days later.
So let me offer you something gentler. Do not restart your whole life today. Just open the Word for five minutes. Read one psalm. Say one honest sentence to God. That is not a small, embarrassing effort. That is faithfulness, and it is exactly how a steady walk is rebuilt, one ordinary morning at a time.
You have not run out of chances. His compassions have not failed. Begin again, friend. Right where you are.
With grace, Kimberly
